About the Agency

About the job

A warm, fun and active nanny/manny wanted to join the team already in place for a home-schooled 13 year old boy with ASD, ADHD and learning differences. Following lockdown and a recent autism diagnosis, the boy is thriving in a home-school setting. His bespoke education has been created by a brilliant team of specialist SEN professionals and tutors and includes film studies, food tech, building and car mechanics. The boy has a great sense of humour, enjoys lots of conversation and loves football, lego, cooking and making films. He is at a transitional age and the role would be to help build his confidence and self-esteem, reduce his anxiety levels, help him to develop his life and social skills and encourage him to be bold and active as he matures.

During term time, the nanny/manny will be the critical ‘glue’ in the home school timetable - coordinating with all members of the team, reinforcing his learning through conversation and play and overseeing the tracking system to document the child’s academic and personal development. This is a position for a long-term mentor and key responsibilities include teaching life and social skills, helping to maintain and encourage new peer friendships, as well as promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. Daily, the job will begin by taking over from his morning tutor, organising fun and physical activities around lessons, providing a nutritious lunch and driving him to his afternoon tutors. The family is looking for a highly intelligent, kind, empathetic, sporty nanny/manny, experienced in working with young people with ASD, who can successfully manage the boy's anxiety and challenges, particularly regarding transition and change: Someone who is committed to childcare, resilient and with a great sense of humour. Positive and high energy, playfulness and skill at distraction are all key requirements along with being a good communicator, highly organised and a nimble thinker - having the ability to adapt quickly or change direction to get the best out of the child.

The position is sole-charge but will be fully supported by an inter-disciplinary team including two specialist educators (who oversee the education and behaviour programme), a clinical psychologist and expert tutors. For someone looking to build their career in SEN childcare, access to this team will be an invaluable resource and learning opportunity. Communication is key and his parents are always available. The family has two older, independent girls and there is a holiday home in Oxfordshire that can be visited for a change of scenery.
