About the job
A fabulous role has become available in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The family live in a modern four bedroom house. They are extremely friendly, active, outgoing, enjoy days out, eating out and holidays. They enjoy spending time together as a family and are looking for a kind and nurturing nanny who will become part of their happy family unit.
You will be looking after two little girls aged seven and five, a little boy aged two and a new baby girl due in September. As Mum will be on maternity leave initially, this will be a shared care role, but there will be some elements of sole charge. The older girls are at school each day, and the toddler also attends nursery for three full days each week.
You will be needed for 40 hours each week. The hours are fairly flexible, as long as the start and end of the day are covered. Maybe something like 07.15-09:15, to help with breakfast, getting the children ready and the school run, returning at 14.45-19.00, to help with the school run, after school clubs, dinner and bath time. However, the hours can be discussed to make the arrangement work for both the nanny and the family. The hours may change a little when Mum returns to work.
Flexibility in this role is a must. While on maternity leave, Mum will sometimes leave the older children with you and go off to do her own thing with the baby. Other times, she will take just one child to gain quality time with each of them. There may also be times when you all do something together.
The parents are keen for their children to learn and develop in a balanced way, to help them hit their various developmental milestones – with lots of educational and stimulating indoor fun (reading stories, sensory play, singing, age-appropriate games, etc) mixed with plenty of outside play and walks to the park. They would also like the children to meet up with friends for play dates, groups and activities in the school holidays, to allow the children to mix with other children, ensuring that they are happy and safe at all times.
The nanny must be a confident and careful driver, with a clean licence. They must have a fully insured car that they can use on duty – duty mileage will be reimbursed at the government rate, currently 45p per mile.
As they employ a weekly cleaner, this role is nursery duties only, but some help to keep the house running smoothly would be appreciated – emptying the dishwasher, making sure all rooms used are tidy at the end of the day, etc. As well as keeping all areas used by the children organised (kitchen, children’s rooms, playroom, etc), the duties are to include keeping on top of the family laundry and a small amount of ironing. You will also be responsible for providing the children with healthy and nutritious meals and snacks (home cooked from scratch as often as possible). As the baby grows, these meals are to be blended (age-appropriate), with plenty made in advance and frozen for the parents to use for the baby at the weekends. It would be appreciated while you are cooking for the children, to make a little more, so that the parents can enjoy your cooking too.
This is a wonderful role and would suit someone who is happy to muck in and enjoy helping this busy family.
